The Fairness for Education Workers Union (“FFEWU”) was established on 8th May 2025 in accordance with Section 3(1)(a) of the Industrial Relations (Northern Ireland) Order 1992.
It was established in response to direct experience of inequalities, inequities, unfair treatment, detriment, disadvantage and prejudice arising under existing education sector disciplinary, grievance and other policies and procedures. More information on the specific concerns appears on the Issues page of this website.
This direct experience relates to a small number of the existing TNC policies and procedures and there is serious concern that other policies and procedures contain many of the same, and other, issues and problems that have the potential to result in injustice of education sector workers. This needs to be investigated and, where relevant, rectified.
Once the research and preliminary work has been performed (including preparation of suggested alternative provisions and policies), the FFEWU will approach the larger and more established unions in the education sector in Northern Ireland to seek their support and cooperation in pursuing amendment of existing policies and procedures. The aim is to create a coalition of unions to approach the relevant employer authorities.
